Emmaus Women’s ShelterSafe at night—Productive by dayEmmaus Women’s Shelter is a Christ-centered, shelter for homeless women and their children, located in Troup County, GA. It is the only facility for homeless women and their children in the county and the only facility for women with a transitional housing plan leading to permanent housing. The program is founded on the Judeo-Christian principles of loving support, offered freely, in the name of Jesus, to persons in need of a helping hand-up toward independence and self-sufficiency. Emmaus Women’s Shelter offers emergency shelter; life-skills development, employment preparation, including training, education and placement; and transitional-to-permanent housing. Emmaus Women’s Shelter provides women hope and help within an eight-step program that teaches essential life skills. This collaborative approach to empowerment is the keystone to developing self-sufficiency in our clients. The steps include personal development, vocational training, substance abuse counseling, interpersonal skills building, community involvement, leisure activities, and independent living skills. A three-tier program will guide her re-entry into the community. The day center, located at 321-B Greenville Street, offers breakfast and lunch to any woman who is homeless as long as she is not violent or intoxicated. She will receive the love of Jesus Christ through the actions of our staff and volunteers. She can receive practical and essential services including a hot meal, a hot shower, a change of clothing, and the use of the washer and dryer. With the helpful guidance of our staff and volunteers she will work with an assigned case manager and a female volunteer mentor, to participate in Bible teaching programs, job readiness programs, GED preparation, vocational training, classes and workshops to help her prepare to live in the community productively. Martha’s House is an emergency shelter for women and their children in response to the rising need for emergency shelter for homeless families. We can assist up to 18 battered, homeless, or poor women and children, 12 and under. We provide: nutritious dinners, clean clothes, showers, hygiene products, warm blankets, sheets, and pillows, as well as breakfasts. Staff meet with the women to determine the best course of action for life improvement. Sometimes, that next best step is to enter our Emmaus Women’s Life Recovery Program. Mary’s House, an integral part of Emmaus Women’s Life Recovery Program, is a home located in a healthy community neighborhood, accessible to shopping, addiction and mental health services, employment, hospital, spiritual and recreational opportunities. The residents of Mary’s House are required to participate in weekly Bible study and daily devotionals, which guide her budding knowledge and walk with Our Lord. Additionally, each woman’s experiences at Mary’s House will include either paid or volunteer employment of 10-30 hours per week, continuing contact with both her assigned case manager and her volunteer mentor. Together they will assist her as she moves toward permanent housing opportunities. Reintegration involves permanent housing. A housing counselor will be assigned to assist her in locating safe and secure housing, furnishings, appliances—all the things that help to make a house feel like a home, for herself and her children. Emmaus Women’s Shelter is the road toward home. |
