Position: House Mother
Purpose:

The position of the Emmaus Women's Shelter residential house mother has two critical roles:

  1. To offer spiritual and emotional support to our residents and their little ones, and;
  2. Through day to day management skills, to enforce the Emmaus Women's Shelter. rules in the shelter with the residents in a restorative Christian residential program.
Requirements:

Emmaus Women's Shelter is seeking a minimum of one (1) year as Housemother. The candidate must have a valid driver's license;

Responsibilities: The housemother selected to fill this position will:

  • Listen to and be an emotional support person to the residents;
  • As a good Christian Role Model, help the residents to understand that living by God's laws can lead to a more peaceful and fulfilling life for them;
  • Enforce the EWS (Emmaus Women's Shelter) rules in the EWS household;
  • Provide a safe and clean environment for the residents;
  • Counsel and advise residents on behavioral problems;
  • Supervise and facilitate housekeeping duties such as preparing for daily departure
  • Prepares light evening meals;
  • Participate in case reviews, consulting with case manager to evaluate the resident’s need for continuing services;
  • Reporting unruly resident behavior to manager or supervisor;
  • Identify household repair problems and advise Director of Operations, so prompt corrective action can be taken.

Technical Competencies: The housemother selected to fill this position will demonstrate:

  • Ability to observe and monitor residents’ behavior;
  • Ability to supervise residents with daily living activities;
  • Knowledge of agency confidentiality policies;
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

While this is a permanent position within Emmaus Women's Shelter, since it is somewhat difficult to find qualified candidates, we will be willing to offer the position on a six-months to one year basis in order to meet our needs and in order to give the qualified candidate experience in a challenging restorative Christian environment.

Currently, the Emmaus Women's Shelter has two residential homes in suburban locations which shelter up to 16 women and children.
